Concert on Main Stage El Piscachin Food Truck Free event Boy Wells and the Originals Eastern Shore, Virginia Boy Wells is a veteran guitarist and singer with deep roots in southern rock, blues, country, jazz, bluegrass, and American roots music. Mentored early on by the legendary Danny Gatton, he has been performing professionally since the late 1970s His 2011 debut album Blue Skies Calling (Marcel Marsupial Records) earned strong notices for its range and musicianship. Reviewers praised Wells’ “masterful guitar picking,” slide and acoustic work, and “perfect voice for southern rock—a little worn, slightly weary, thoroughly lived-in.” The record moves easily from New Orleans-flavored grooves and straight-up bottleneck blues to southern-rock burners and bluegrass-tinged instrumentals, all originals. Supporting players included former Gatton bassist John Prevetti, Molly Hatchet drummer Bruce Crump, and violin/mandolin player Rickie Simpkins (Emmylou Harris). Over the years Wells has opened for or shared stages with The Beach Boys, The Ventures, Molly Hatchet, The Kentucky Headhunters, Kenny Chesney, and others. Today he fronts Boy Wells and the Originals, a tight working band delivering that same roots-driven mix of grit, melody, and high-level guitar playing to stages across the Eastern Shore.
